A Nation's Grief

Why did God allow the five young sportsmen to go?
No one can comprehend. Nonetheless, the loss is real and the pain, indescribable i.e. too intense for words.

This is a nation's grief.
All that we can do now is to pray for the deceased families and to let them know that as a nation, we're sharing their grief & pain.

Note: My deepest condolence to my ex-colleague, Mr Freddie Kee, who lost his beloved son, Reuben Kee.

Tan Wei Jie

Wei Jie decided to drop-by together with his friends today. We then went to Eunos and had dried fish balls noodles, satay and roti-prata for dinner; and 'cheng teng' for desserts. It's a good evening. Thank God.

A late evening

A late evening... as the computer engineer was alone setting up the new computers till about 9pm. Good thing Dominic, Jeremy, Jasper, Cheng Hoong & Yong Siang were around. If not, it would have been quite a boring evening. Thanks Guys for being there!

First Boy

Kevin Tan is the First Boy to come knocking at the glass door of my new workplace this evening. He is a P6 Boy from Hong Wen School. He's also the First Boy that i know who is from that School! He seems like a bright & intelligent Boy, who has an elder brother that represents Singapore in Sailing. Kevin actually wanted to know when the new centre will be Opening? By God's Grace, soon... =) Note: PSLE Results Out on 22 Nov 07 (Thurs).

Still

Waking up today; Hearing noises in the kitchen (it's mom...); Checking for sms-es; Getting out of bed; Switching on the computer; looking over the window; observing a cloudy day; vehicles and buses passing by below; it seems like everything have stood 'still' whenever you wake up after a major activity.
Thanking God for a good rest.

Under Siege

Have you felt like giving up lately? Life at times felt as if you're "under siege", where everything seemed to be coming against you. What do you do in such a situation? That's when good friends or someone to talk to become extremely important. A listening ear. Someone to understand your situation and to empathise. Do you have a good friend or someone to turn to when you are down?

My First

This is my very first early-morning blog after sunrise. Thank God for the rest from around 8pm last evening till this morning. Here's wishing one and all "A Blessed Day".

KK Hospital

What a day?! I was down with flu; seen a Dr and was given 2 days MC. Ended up in KK Hospital in the afternoon from around 3pm - 5pm. No no... it's not me... my little niece is unwell too. She'd fever of up to 41.2 degree or so this afternoon. As such, i rang her mom and we brought her to KK Hospital Emergency Department. What a long day?! So tiring... and the flu bug is making me 'blur-blur'... going to take my medication now & rest. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers.

A Place to Hang Out

Our thanks to our BB Chaplain, Pastor David Seow, for suggesting the use of Blk 525 (@Bedok North Street 3) after BB parade on Saturdays.

It is good to have a new place to hang out, where the guys can play basketball, soccer, practice guitar, sing-along session, fellowship or simply having a meal together. We like it there and intends to use it on alternate Saturdays, beginning on 1 December 2007.

The Fantastic Four (namely, Jeremy Chua, Yong Siang, Dominic Lim & Cheng Hoong) who were present to assist in tidying the new Youth Centre. Thanks again Guys! Your presence have made a great difference! It's neat and tidy now! To God be the Glory.

Killing God

Dear Friends,

It is of interest to you to know that the 2007 film entitled "The Golden Compass" is written by an atheist, Philip Pullman. His main aim is to kill God in the minds of children and to promote atheism.

It is amusing to note that Pullman is so up against the existence and the notion of God that he wrote a trilogy entitled "The Dark Materials". (Pt 1: The Northern Lights - released as The Golden Compass; Pt 2: The Subtle Knife; Pt 3: The Amber Spyglass) to counteract C S Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia".



It will be interesting to watch how Pullman actually "successfully killed" God in his last book. Has God become a legend?

Alone with Jesus

It can be a lonely journey here on earth when you choose to follow Jesus-all the way. Nonetheless, along the way He often shows that he is there still and most important of all, He cares. Tonight, i would have had a very late dinner if not for 70yo, Uncle Teng, the Cleaner at BBHQ. I was alone packing the office for The Big Move this Friday. Uncle Teng would drop by 'now & then' to share his sympathy that it must have been hard on me. At around 7:15pm he came by and offered to get me dinner. And within 15-20 minutes or so, he returned with my dinner! Thereafter, he went for his! I was so touched by his acts of kindness. It 'rejuvenates' me more than the food itself. Thank God that the centre is ready to move on 9-11. To God Be The Glory.

The Christian Pilgrim

Here are some of the thoughts of Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) with regards to "a journey toward heaven".

"And confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things, declare plainly that they seek a country." -- Hebrews 11:13, 14

SECTION I
That this life ought to be so spent by us, as to be only a journey or pilgrimage towards heaven.

1. That we ought not to rest in the world and its enjoyments, but should desire heaven.
2. We ought to seek heaven, by traveling in the way that lead thither. This is a way of holiness.
3. We should travel on in this way in a laborious manner.
4. Our whole lives ought to be spent in traveling this road. — We ought to begin early.
5. We ought to be continually growing in holiness, and in that respect coming nearer and nearer to heaven.
6. All other concerns of life ought to be entirely subordinate to this. — When a man is on a journey, all the steps he takes are subordinated to the aim of getting to his journey’s end.

SECTION II
Why the Christian’s life is a journey, or pilgrimage?

1. THIS world is not our abiding place. Our continuance here is but very short.
2. The future world was designed to be our settled and everlasting abode.
3. Heaven is that place alone where our highest end and highest good is to be obtained.
4. Our present state, and all that belongs to it, is designed by him that made all things, to be wholly in order to another world.

SECTION III
Instruction afforded by the consideration, that life is a journey or pilgrimage, towards heaven.

1. THIS doctrine may teach us moderation in our mourning for the loss of such dear friends, who while they lived, improved their lives to right purposes.
2. If our lives ought to be only a journey towards heaven, how ill do they improve their lives, that spend them in traveling towards hell?
3. Hence when persons are converted they do but begin their work and set out in the way they have to go.

SECTION IV
An exhortation so to spend the present life, that it may only be a journey towards heaven

1. How worthy is heaven that your life should be wholly spent as a journey towards it.
2. This is the way to have death comfortable to us. — To spend our lives so as to be only a journeying towards heaven, is the way to be free from bondage and to have the prospect and forethought of death comfortable.
3. No more of your life will be pleasant to think of when you come to die, than has been spent after this manner.
4. Consider that those who are willing thus to spend their lives as a journey towards heaven may have heaven.
5. Let it be considered that if our lives be not a journey towards heaven, they will be a journey to hell.

A few directions:
1. Labor to get a sense of the vanity of this world
2. Labor to be much acquainted with heaven
3. Seek heaven only by Jesus Christ
4. Let Christians help one another in going this journey

No Coincidence

Today is a timely reminder that "nothing that happens daily is by coincidence!" This is what God had taught me when i was a new & young believer. That He orchestrates every event in my life and has the BIG PICTURE in "His palm". That my role is to "listen, learn to obey, get right when i fall, walk by faith, and follow Him till He calls me back home". Keep walking = )

It is with much thanksgiving to God today that He brought "Jeremy Chua, Dominic Lim, Chan Cheng Hoong & Tan Yong Siang" to my workplace "one last time" before "The Big Move" that's on this coming Friday. And Boys being Boys, just wanna have fun! Hereby is Jeremy Chua "playing crazily" with the electric guitar after they've helped packed 05 boxes of books - superheavy!

Typical weekend, Sg

It's a typical weekend here in Singapore, where Christians attend Church Services with friends and families, followed by lunch, shopping, movies, swim or doing something fun and adventurous. For many, it's waking up late on Sunday morning and lazing at home or simply arranging to meet up friends for a movie or just catching-up. In reality, there are really nothing much to do here in this tiny island over the weekend if you are old, sick, without friends or families. The young or healthy will do their best to create meaning over the weekends e.g. partying, going to pubs, clubbing, meeting friends, gathering as a family or getting involved in community services etc. As such, it only makes sense that the government promotes pro-family policies to ensure lives go on here. Blessed week ahead!

Note: "The Rock" didn't disapppoint in his latest movie, "The Game Plan". 3.5 Stars upon 5! Simply wholesome for the entire family!

Selflessness vs Selfishness

The Marriam-Websters (on-line) Dictionary defines Selflessness as "having no concern for self i.e. unselfish". Unselfish is also being generous, which is "characterized by a noble or forbearing spirit & liberal in giving."

When was the last time we made a decision benefiting others? Or, do we care only about ourselves, our joy, our future?

Someday, when you are in the position of power, i pray that you will remember this post and make decisions that will impact others positively more than self. Have a peace-filled weekend.

History makers

Both Jeremy & Dominic made history today by becoming the first two BB Boys to step into my new workplace and are also the first pair to try out the brand new table soccer that was delivered this afternoon. "Guys, Thanks for coming down to my workplace!"

Do You Know?

People, in general, are guilty of pride? And it was pride that caused the downfall of lucifer or commonly known as satan.

How do you tell if a person is full of pride or boastful? Just simply by listening to a person's speech, the way he or she treats others, the things owned etcetera.

Interestingly, people who are not good looking, lacking in talents or penniless are usually "humble". But it does not equate to true humility though. Anyway, people who are good looking, talented or rich tend to be more confident and loud. You can say, "Boastful".

Thus, Jesus said, "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." - Matthew 14:24

It's in all of us. Yes. We're guilty!

But not everyone will admit it. Some are even unaware! They can be in their 30s, 40s, or 80s! Somehow, they'll always think they are right!

"O please, tell me, if i'm boastful and proud! Correct or rebuke me if you have to. Thank you."
